TESTING PROCESS (Applicant Status)</span></strong><br><br><strong><span style="color: rgb(0,0,0);">TRAINING & EXPERIENCE EVALUATION (Eligible List Placement)</span></strong><br>The test for placing candidates on the eligible list will consist of an application evaluation and scoring. It is essential that applications include detailed information regarding education, certifications, and experience. Applicants who pass this assessment will move forward to the department assessment process.<br><br><strong><span style="color: rgb(223,53,12);">B. DEPARTMENT ASSESSMENT PROCESS (Candidate Status)</span></strong><br><br>Candidates should expect a very competitive background and assessment process (with only a percentage of candidates moving forward at each step).<br><br>Typical assessments include:<br><br><ul><li>Physical Agility Testing<li>Background Investigation<li>Polygraph<li>Psychological Suitability Assessment<li>Command Staff Interview<li>Medical Fit-for-Duty Examination<li>Drug Testing<li>Education & Experience Verification<li>Fingerprinting</ul><br><strong><span style="color: rgb(0,0,0);">1. Personal History Statement</span></strong><br>Candidate information will be forwarded to the department Background Investigation Unit as they are placed on the list. An investigator will email each applicant a Personal History Statement with a deadline for submission. <span style="color: rgb(223,53,12);">The background unit processes candidates as needed. It is normal to have a wait period of a few weeks before an investigator contacts you.</span><br><br><strong>2. Physical Agility Test Information</strong><br>Candidates invited to the Physical Agility Test will be <strong>contacted by email. </strong>Testing is done in small groups as needed and typically occurs after candidates have submitted their background forms.<br><br>The Nevada Administrative Code Section 289.200 sets the physical fitness standards required for a law enforcement recruit. These standards must be achieved to successfully complete an academy. The City of Las Vegas uses these standards to test applicants for sworn officer positions. This is a PASS or FAIL test. Failing any one of the standards is considered a failure for the entire test. <strong>(</strong><a href=""><strong>watch video</strong></a><strong>)</strong><br> <br>City of Las Vegas Testing Standards:<br><br><ul><li>Vertical Jump (15 inches)<li>Agility Run (19.5 seconds)<li>Sit-Ups (30 qualifying sit-ups in 60 seconds)<li>Push-Ups (23 qualifying push-ups; no time limit; but can rest in up position)<li>300 Meter Run (68 seconds)<li>1.5 Mile Run (16 minutes, 57 seconds)</ul><strong>3. Polygraph Information</strong><br>The polygraph is by <strong>invitation only</strong>. A polygraph, popularly referred to as a lie detector, measures and records several physiological indices such as blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and skin conductivity while the candidate is asked and answers a series of questions. If you are scheduled for a polygraph, you will be contacted by our Internal Affairs Division.<br> <br><strong>4. Psychological Suitability Assessment Information</strong><br>The Psychological Suitability Assessment<strong> </strong>is by <strong>invitation only</strong> and begins with a written psychological assessment. The written assessment typically takes 4-5 hours to complete. Before leaving the test site applicants are scheduled for a 30 minute interview with the psychologist for some time that week. Every effort will be made to schedule the interview the day after the exam for out of state applicants. Applicants should prepare to be flexible with their calendar for the days following the written assessment to accommodate the interview.<br><br><strong>5. Command Staff Interview</strong><br>Candidates who are scheduled for the psychological suitability assessment will be invited to an in-person interview.<br><br><strong>6. Academy Selections</strong><br>Candidates who are selected to take the Psychological Suitability Assessment will be considered for selection by Command Leadership. Academy selections are <strong>very competitive</strong> and based on candidate overall background evaluations and the number of vacancies at that time.<br><br><strong>Candidate Communication</strong><br>Email will be the <u>primary</u> communication method during the entire recruitment process. It is a good idea to check your emails regularly while you are active in the process, to include checking your spam or trash folders.<br><br>Below is a full job description for each position.<br><br><a href="" target="_blank">Corrections Officer</a><br><a href="" target="_blank">Deputy City Marshal</a><p style="margin: 0.0in;"><strong><span style="color: inherit;">Experience. </span></strong><span style="color: inherit;">One year of work experience (does NOT have to be law enforcement). <em>A Bachelor's degree in any field may substitute for the one year of work experience.</em><br><strong>Education. </strong>High school diploma or equivalent to graduation from high school date of application.<br><strong>License. </strong>Appropriate valid driver's license date of application and maintenance thereafter.<br><strong>Age. </strong>Be at least 21 years of age at the time of job offer.<br><strong>Citizenship. </strong>Be a United States citizen at time of job offer.<br> <br><strong>Special to this classification pursuant to NAC 289.110</strong></span></p><br><ul><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Have no conviction of a felony in the state of Nevada, or any offense which would be considered a felony if committed in the state of Nevada.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Have no conviction of any crime for which you were required to register and/or a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence including use or attempted use of physical force.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Have no conviction of unlawful use, sale, or possession of a control substance.</span></p></ul><p style="margin: 0.0in;"><strong><span style="color: inherit;">Department </span></strong></p><br><ul><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">No convictions with the past 12 months, including DUI.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Drug use (including marijuana and steroids) may be disqualifying.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Two or more alcohol related incidents in the past 48 months is disqualifying.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Suspensions, revocations or cancelations of driver's license within the last three years will be reviewed on an individual basis.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Separation from any branch of the United States Armed Forces under less than "honorable" conditions, or separation honorably from the Armed Forces for reasons of unsuitability or misconduct is disqualifying.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Any active warrant at the time of background interview is disqualifying.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Decertification from any law enforcement agency is disqualifying.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Termination for cause by another criminal justice agency is disqualifying.</span></p><li><p style="margin-top: 0.0in;margin-right: 0.0in;"><span style="color: inherit;">Any misrepresentations, either intentionally or unintentionally, will be grounds for disqualification.</span></p></ul>Below is a full job description for each position.<br><br><a href="" target="_blank">Corrections Officer</a><br><a href="" target="_blank">Deputy City Marshal</a>
