Department Summary

This front-line advising role serves as a primary and consistent point of connection for students, from onboarding through degree completion. Academic Advisors help students navigate their academic plans, proactively support those experiencing challenges, and reconnect students who have paused their studies to help them successfully return.

As part of the OHIO Online team, Academic Advisors are responsible for supporting the success of an assigned population of students while providing individualized guidance based on each student’s needs. Advisors develop expertise in academic programs and requirements, institutional policies and practices, and student support resources. They proactively monitor student progress and engagement, initiate outreach to students who may not independently seek assistance, and use technology and data to identify needs, prioritize their work, document activity, and track outcomes.

Advisors are expected not only to help individual students overcome barriers, but also to recognize and elevate systemic issues that can be addressed to improve outcomes for larger populations of students.

The successful candidate will develop expertise in academic advising, population-based student success strategies, data-informed outreach, advising technologies, and continuous improvement while contributing directly to student persistence and degree completion. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building relationships with students, proactively reaching out to offer support, using data and technology to guide their work, and approaching student success from both an individual and systemic perspective
